The Clarence River Jockey Club is located at Grafton on the North Coast of New South Wales.
The CRJC race at Grafton Racecourse and conduct 25 race meetings per year. The highlight of the racing calendar is the famous July Racing Carnival comprising 5 feature race meetings over 11 days which sees the running of the Listed WHK Ramornie Handicap and the Listed Grafton Cup.
In 2014 the Grafton Carnival will commence on Thursday, 3 July with the running of the Westlawn Finance Grafton Cup Prelude - 2100m and the John Carlton Cup - 1200m named in honour of the late John Carlton who for many years was the resident caller at CRJC meetings. The winners of these races are exempt from ballot in the Grafton Cup and Ramornie Handicap respectively. Sunday, 6 July is the second day of the Carnival with the running of the time honoured Black Auto South Grafton Cup - 1600m.
The winter racing action hots up on Wednesday, 9 July when Australia's best winter sprinters line up in the WHK Ramornie Handicap - 1200m (Listed). For many years the winner of the Ramornie Handicap has gone on to contest some of Australia's biggest sprint races. In recent years the honour role includes Takeover Target and Howmuchdoyouloveme.
Thursday, 10 July sees the running of the time honoured Grafton Cup - 2350m (Listed), a race which over the years has produced some of the best middle distance and staying horses Australia has seen. Two of its former graduates were multiple Group 1 winner Riverdale and 1987 Melbourne Cup winner Kensei.
For those looking to round out a top 11 days of racing the Maclean Cup - 1400m will be held on Sunday, 13 July 2014.
