Everson’s Everest

It was huge day at the office for the Shane Everson stable at Grafton yesterday with four starters spread across three races.
The day could not have started better with the consistent Alabama Girl saluting in the Class 1 1400m.
This race was restricted to apprentice riders and Everson had been smart enough to secure the services of leading apprentice Jett Newman for three of his stable runners.
Newman settled Alabama Girl midfield the fence before easing around heels to be in clear air below the 300m. Whilst Alabama Girl had her fair share of luck with the second horse racing greenly in the end she did everything right to score a narrow victory.
Everson’s next runner Cianwood City might have also had some things go his way with the pre post favourite withdrawn at the barrier before the start of the Maiden 1040m.
Nevertheless Cianwood City which had been racing very consistently in similar races finally had things go his way to dome degree when he moved away from the fence to begin his run down the outside at the 300m.
No sooner was he beginning his run then he started to hang in causing Newman to swap hand with the whip one stride later the whip had fallen from her grasp and Newman had to just urge the gelding hands and heels to the line. In the End Cianwood City found just enough to hold off his rivals.
Everson headed into race 5 the Maiden 1770m with a two pronged attack. This time Newman was on race favorite Beearetee it was taken straight to the top by Newman and was never headed to hold on and win well.
The home town treble continues a strong run of wins being experienced by camp Everson which to looks to be on track to again be the leading Grafton based trainer this season.
