The final day of the Grafton Cup Carnival the Maclean Cup Day was bitterly cold and only the stupid or the broke braved the conditions to go racing.
Grafton trainer John Shelton was feeling no pain after Hayley’s Rocket overcame a very tough run to score in the F&M BM 58 1100m.
Ridden by Mikayla Weir Hayley’s Rocket was caught three deep without cover throughout the event but still managed to find a kick at the 100m marl and went on to score well.
Hayley’s Rocket is part owned by long time stable supporter Brian Paine who has raced horses with the John Shelton yard for as long as I can remember.
It was the second win for the mare from just eight starts.
