With racing well and truly back after the post July break we will over the next few days start to review how the locals trainers have faired so far in the new racing season.
First cab off the rank will be last seasons leading Grafton based trainer Shane Everson.
Shane has more or less started off the current season in great form.
Over the past few seasons Shane has made regular trips to Port Macquarie and has experienced plenty of success. August 2025 proved to be equally as exciting.
On August 8 the stable scored a winning double when both Sun Topaz and Snow Falcon managed to get the judges nod.
Snow Falcon ridden by the inform Jett Newman sat outside the leader before establishing a winning break on the point of the turn to never really be in danger in the BM 58 1200m.
Sun Topaz however gave a little more reason for concern making the home turn well back in the BM 58 1800m before Mikayla Weir weaved into the clear near the 300m with Sun Topaz sustaining a strong sprint to the line to win with some authority.
Shane had to wait until the end of August for his next winner and again it came in the double package at the Grafton meeting on August 30th.
Dizzy Dee was under the guidance of Jett Newman and it was almost a case of deja vu in the run with Dizzy Dee racing outside the leader before working all the way to the post to score a solid win in the Class 1 1205m.
The stables final winner for August probably gave the most satisfaction when the now aptly named Old Timing Man showed plenty of courage under the urgings of Jeff Kehoe to score a gutsy win in the BM 50 1130m.
After doing plenty of work to cross from the extreme outside draw Old Timing Man then fought all the way to the line to win.
It was the tenth victory for the ten year old who took his earnings up over $180K, which is an outstanding effort of longevity.
