After The Wait

Dwayne Schmidt by his own admission will be the first to admit that season 20/21 has not been as lucrative as last year brought about in part by the large number of 2yo currently being prepared by the stable.

Nevertheless the aim of any trainer is to win races and Schmidt has been hampered by a number of meetings in December and January being abandoned when he had a large number of runners.

Murwillumbah on Saturday and Schmidt was there with two runners . Things did not look like going to plan when his first runner Auszone was beaten in avery close photo finish and Schmidt was sure he was in for more of the same with a large number of minor placings for the season.

It did not take long however for luck to change when in the final event of the day Schmidt linked with for former leading NSW country apprentice Jackson Murphy on Prince of Braemar.

Prince Of Braemar had been unlucky at his two previous runs and Murphy was keen to make the trip south to pilot the gelding.

In what was a copybook Murwillumbah wet track ride Murphy stalked the leaders in the run and although looking in trouble coming to the turn when under heavy pressure angled out to the better part of the track and once balanced Prince Of Braemar sprinted quickly to pick up the leader and win well.

Pic Prince Of Braemar wins with some authority.
