Crafty Victory

Weekend racing returned to Grafton last Saturday with the running of the Coutts Crossing Cup however whilst Grafton was not able to bring home the prize in the feature event of the day there was one stable celebrating after the running of the Maiden 1400m.
Whilst the Schmidt stable saddled up the $2 favorite Define Tyranny in the event it was the stable newcomer Crafty Girl that was able to get away with the thick end of the prize.
Whilst Define Tyranny and Luke Rolls controlled the tempo in front it was Crafty Girl ridden by Matt McGuren that settled well back in the small field and only left the rail to go around the leader near the 200m mark.
Once in the clear Crafty Girl showed a good turn of foot to race away and win by almost three lengths with Define Tyranny battling on strongly to just hold second and give both the stable and owner the winning quinella.
Crafty Girl was having her first start for the yard after previously been prepared in Victoria and Albury. Whilst Saturday was her first placing she had indicated some staying ability in Victoria and it will be interesting to see her step up in distance in her next few starts.
