Highs And Lows

Racing is an amazing sport one day you are at the bottom of the pile looking up in despair and the next you are at the top of the tree celebrating.

For Grafton Trainer Ally Ryan he got to experience exactly that over the last few days. A long haul to Randwick and no luck with Rioli in the Highway on Saturday followed by a long haul home to Grafton was hard to stomach.

However all that bad luck was forgotten at Lismore on Monday when the stable favorite REDWOLF returned to the winners circle after a four year absence.

Amazingly REDWOLF had not been able to win a race since the corresponding meeting at Lismore in 2015 which is a 208 week wait.

The flashy chestnut gelding has been twice retired in that time but keeps making a return to the racetrack and given all the issues he has been required to manage Ally Ryan has done a magnificent job with him.

In Monday’s win REDWOLF was assisted by a 10 out of 10 ride from Kasie Stanley who after drawing a tricky gate took the drag to find a position  off the fence. Then moving to the home turn made her intentions clear by shifting back to the inside to save even more ground.

Once in the straight REDWOLF drove up along the fence to win well without going around a horse.
