Racing in Review – Coffs Harbour December 2019

With Grafton racing moving into recess for the Christmas period it is now the time the locals head to the highway in search of winners and it is time also for this scribe to catch up on some news we will review Coffs Harbour showcase meeting from early December in this article and then go back with reviews of earlier racing we have missed and cover all the Grafton winners in the other meetings.

Fleur Blanch could not have started her training career in better style when BASANITE scored a solid win in the BM 66 1200M .

The gelding was the first runner for the yard and ridden by Anthony Allen settled well back in the field before shifting into clear running at the top of the straight to zoom home down the centre of the track and score running away.

It was great training effort because BASANITE had pulled lame at his most recent Victorian start but was presented in tip top order and arced accordingly.

Premier trainer John Shelton has had a quiet run by his own high standards but found the winners circle with BUGALUGS in the Class 1 1300m. Ridden by Luke Rolls BUGALUGS won the start before Rolls elected to take the drag and trail the leader until the 300m where he shifted around iits heels and come with a well timed run to take the lead below the 100 and race to the line to win well.

July 2017 and Todd Fletcher was over the moon MIDWEEK HUSSLER had just run a fantastic fourth in the ” Springboard To Fame” behind two very smart horses and looked like being a very smart 3yo in the making.

To cement that thought MIDWEEK HUSSLER then won again at his first preparation as a 3yo. However in three subsequent preparations frustratingly he had not been able to win until Coffs Harbour.

At Coffs given the run of the race just behind the speed by Mikayla Weir the gelding scored a solid win in the Class 2 1400m. Now he has turned the corner there may well be more wins in store.
