Patience Pays Off

Whilst I find horse racing a truly amazing sport the massive highs and lows of it never cease to amaze me. It was never more evident than in the build up to the Maiden 1006m at Grafton on Monday.
Before the start of the event the Shane Everson prepared Moringa’s Amordoro was sent to the barriers early as he was starting to get worked up in the parade yard.
Moringa’s Amordoro was after all no stranger to officials, he had bolted in during a trial at Grafton last October when ridden by Olivia Pickering but due to his greenness had failed to pass to race.
Then in November he got worked up in the parade yard and was a late scratching from a trial after dislodging his rider Jon Grisedale and knocking his attendant to the ground.
A spell and hours and hours of work saw Moringa’s Amordoro return to the racetrack at Coffs Harbour in August he was again impressive in winning a trial this time ridden by Brooke Stower.
Whilst Moringa’s Amordoro was cooling his heels at the gates Brooke Stower who had elected to ride another impressive trial winner in the same race was dislodged and sustained a serious back injury.
In the end Ray Spokes steered Moringa’s Amordoro to a very easy victory making the opposition look second rate when he bolted in running a smart time.
Jon Grisedale was on a well beaten runner in the same race…..
Olivia Pickering was on the sideline recovering from a shoulder injury…
Brooke Stower was being assessed in hospital
Shane Everson ….well he was trying to fully enjoy the win after all his hard work ……Not an easy task in all the circumstances.
Brooke by the way was later flown to Sydney to continue treatment for her back but not before she told me how happy she was to hear that Shane had won the race.
Yes it is a tough game but as they say thats racing.
