Grafton trainer Greg Howells only has a small team in work these days but in recent months he has travelled far and wide in search of that elusive win.
Although now having a well earned rest Homeland travelled to Bowraville in late November for a 1000m maiden.
Ridden by one of the Bowraville specialists in Raymond Spokes Homeland was able to overcome a tardy beginning to be stalking the leaders in the run to the turn before Spokes used the bend to work into the clear and gain the upper hand in the shadows of the post to score a solid win.
As is so often the case at Bowraville Grafton was again in the winners circle when the Vanessa McLennan prepared Kendyacatchme scored his first victory in the Maiden 1370m.
Ridden by Nori Masuda Kendyacatchme sat second in the run before Nori went for home on the point of the corner to establish what turned out to be a winning break.
The third Grafton success for the day was provided by Cathy Chapman when the aptly named Endangered Species scored in the BM 20 1370m.
Ridden by Raymond Spokes Endangered Species found himself in front with Spokes dictating terms to a nicety before kicking on the bend and essentially it was race over with Endangered Species sprinting away to win easily.
Why is he aptly named you may ask.. well Endangered Species is raced by local work rider Jason Fogarty and as anyone in the racing game will tell you reliable work riders are considered an “Endangered Species”.
