Master trainer and former mountain man John Shelton would be the first to admit he has had a fairly slow start during the first half of the current season nevertheless he has still found a few winners from limited starters. With the break in Grafton racing Shelton is preparing to head up the mountain to Inverell in search of winners.
The stables recent winners include a double at Grafton over the Jacaranda period when Monaco Flyer and Highwire Girl both scored solid wins in maidens on that day.
Ridden by Matt McGuren Monaco Flyer led throughout to win the Maiden 1015m in very gloomy conditions.
A couple of races later Highwire Girl which was having its first run in blinkers showed good speed for Luke Rolls to race on the speed and then produced plenty of courage in the run to the finish to win the Maiden 1420m.
John’s most recent winner was Mum Knows which was having its first start for the stable when it led throughout to win the Maiden 1010m in early December. Mum Knows was under the guidance of Raymond Spokes. Interestingly Mum Knows will make the trip up the mountain tomorrow to Inverell tomorrow hoping to make it two on the bounce.
