Sparky come horse trainer Wayne Lawson certainly flicked the right switch on the weekend landing a winning double.
Like many Grafton trainers Lawson headed to Glen Innes Cup meeting on Saturday with one runner Permission Denied in the Maiden 1400m.
Lawson decided that Permission Denied needed the addition of blinkers and what a master spoke it proved to be with Permission Denied taking up a much more forward position than usual.
Ridden by Brooke Stower Permission Denied was allowed to stride to the top near the 1000m mark essentially controlling the tempo before Stower pushed the go button on the point of the home turn and it was race over with Permission Denied racing right away at the finish.
Pink Silks day at Coffs on Sunday and Lawson had to wait until the final race of the day with his stable newcomer Spills but the wait was well and truly worth it.
Starting at the juicy odds of $41 Spills ridden by Luke Rolls had to overcome a tricky gate in the BM 58 1305m but worked across the face of the field near the 1000m to take up the running.
Although being strongly challenged in the early part of the straight Spills found plenty under the riding of Rolls to hold on and win well.
It was the first win from three starts for Spills under the care of Lawson after the horse was purchased from Greg Kilner when he retired from training after the July Carnival.
