Winning Ways

With racing returning to Grafton next Tuesday time to do a catch up on the success of our local trainers.
Team Henley are in the spotlight today and what a few weeks they have had. Bowraville Cup day proved to be a happy hunting ground for the Fleur Henley stable making the trip with two maiden gallopers who both made the trip home as Class 1 gallopers.
First in the winners circle was Spoiler in the 1000m Maiden. Ridden by Ben Looker Spoiler bounced straight to the front but was essentially attacked in the lead throughout the event before giving a huge kick on the point of the home turn to establish a winning break.
Next it was Saskatoon Berry in the Maiden 1370m. Again ridden by Ben Looker Saskatoon Berry settled well back in the field with Looker stealing inside runs until the 400m where he moved away from the fence and went for home. By the time the home turn was reached Saskatoon Berry was in full flight and it was race over going on to score with ease.
Next it was off to the time honoured Tabulam Cup Meeting with Spoiler in the Class 2 1000m. This time it was Wayne O’Connell as the rider. Spoiler raced outside the leader in a quickly run race gaining a narrow lead on the point of the home turn and finding plenty under pressure to gain the judges decision in a close photo.
Not to be outdone Scott Henley headed to day two of the Port Macquarie Cup meeting with Confederate Lady in the Class 1 1000m.
Ridden by Ben Looker Confederate Lady had to overcome the outside barrier which resulted in a tough run with the mare being caught wide throughout the event however in the straight Confederate Lady found plenty under the urgings of Looker to hold on and win well.
